Our Advent Calendar This Year
hello dear ones! as promised, I'm going to share what is in our advent calendar this year. before we start, I do want to say that this is my third year doing a diy calendar with my kids. it wasn't something nostalgic for me because my parents never did one with us growing up. my mom would buy the little christmas chocolates market every once in awhile and we'd end up eating it all on one sitting together and that's okay.
Up until three years ago, I, too, did the simple Christmas market chocolates and called it a day. I only started because we're homeschooling and it adds so much joy to the day and excitement! Truth is, I love curating these calendars and having intentional meaning behind them.
that's not to say that I won't just buy a lego one in the future, but for now, while the kids are still little, it's a fun way for me to start (or end) the school day in December. especially now that we've moved away from family this year and will be having our first Christmas without the granddparents. we're gonna need that extra holiday cheer!
so let's talk details, shall we?
the calendar
I use a pouch style calendar from gathre - - click here to see :: size small, in the shade ivory !
truth be told, it's a bit small and I wish that I have spent that extra
$50 for the larger size, but it is what it is. I almost bought two extra
calendars this year, one for each child, but I opted to stick with the one I have
and make it work since they are on the pricer side.

I've inserted a little reel from last year so you can get an idea of what it can look like. last year it was filled with a wooden figurines, candy, a devotional card, a calico critter, and a play silk from sarah's silk. they look stuffed and it wasn't even that much. LOL. it's gonna be fun trying to make it all fit.
the items
my boys are getting bigger, so I took a more mature approach to the calendar. it's a combination of fun, educational, and necessities. because I have three boys, I try to buy three things that are of the same element, but also different.
For example, last year, there was a play silk, a critter and a wooden gnome figurine, so each day they would alternate who would get what. this year I am doing three of the same thing for one day. for example, one day I have retro game as a theme, so I have three retro games and each child will get one.
please note that I started officially shopping for these thing in October, but have also collected things throughout the year, so some of the things I bought might be sold out already. something to keep in mind as you browse this list.
